To the fans and supporters of Hammarby Hockey:
As some of you may know, I recently took a job coaching at a college back home in the U.S. It was a job that I knew might be a possibility when I arrived in August, and I had informed Hammarby that the job may come up. The organization and I made an agreement that if the job came up, they would allow me to return home. That being said, when the job became a reality two weeks ago, it was an incredibly hard decision to make: go home and take this job and stop playing hockey, or continue living and playing in Stockholm. When it came down to it, I decided that the coaching job was the best move for my career.
To the fans and supporters of Hammarby Hockey:

One of the things I will miss most about my time with Hammarby are the friendships I have made. I don't think I will miss practices and games as much as I will miss the guys on the team and the fans who give their heart and soul to the club. To be quite honest, one of the big reasons why I played with Hammarby for the past two and a half years was because of the passion and commitment of the fans and supporters. I have had some hilarious times with the fans: Magnus and I getting into a fight with a cab driver outside of Kvarnen after Magnus scratched the cab with his crutch; catching football games with Lasse; the fans coming to Ange, and the pipe in the candy bag from Almtuna (not going to go into detail about that one... ); Nina taking me in for dinner; all the trash-talking with Tony; and all the beers at Kvarnen and the Green Hunter. There are many more stories, and many more people to thank. I just want to let you know, however, that you all made my experience in Stockholm so meaningful and worthwhile. You have opened your arms and your doors to me, and that's something that you did not need to do. It made being many miles away from family and friends that much easier. It was amazing how quickly Stockholm felt like home. I know my family shares the same sentiments. They knew I would miss the fans and all the crazy stories... and they also knew they would miss them just as much. My parents still talk about their interactions with the fans during their visits to Stockholm, and they love to hear want nutty antics the fans have been up to. I don't think these kind of relationships are common, and many hockey players don't get to share such a great, and close, connection with the fans. I feel bad about leaving the team, and I can understand some hard feelings towards my decision, but I really do appreciate all you have done, and I want to thank you.
I hope that the organization starts making the climb towards the top of the mountain soon, and I will be watching, from afar, every step of the way. Thank you for two and a half great years, and I wish you all the best.
